Mango and Microsoft offering R1 flights (sort of)

To celebrate the launch of low-cost airline Mango’s app for Windows Phone devices  the company is offering consumers R1 flights, with the usual ream of terms and conditions you’d expect.

Bookings have to be made using the Mango Windows Phone app, have to be for a return journey (where the R1 fare only applies to either the outbound or return leg of the journey), and only apply to travel between now and the end of June.

Mango has made 10 000 seats available for the promotion and peak flight times (like flying out on a Friday and back on a Sunday) are excluded. Further, bookings have to be made before the end of May.

So what does a R1 flight look like in actual terms once the fees and taxes are added? Around R180 for a return flight from Cape Town. Add that to the R700-R1 100 for the other, requisite leg and you’re looking at between R1 000 and R1 300 for the return trip. Not too shabby.

Users can pay using a range of methods, including credit cards, SAA Voyager miles or Edgars and Jet store cards.

Mango was the first African airline to offer full booking, payment and flight management functionality via a mobile app. Mango apps are available for Android, Apple, BlackBerry and now Windows Phone devices.
