LG G4 specs leak a day ahead of official unveiling

The LG G4 is probably the single most leaked product in existence, a phone which isn’t officially launched until later today but which seems to have been a fully fledged ‘thing’ in our lives for several years now.

And just in case there was any doubt left about its exact specifications, they leaked in full. Yesterday.

According to usually reliable Twitter tipster Evan Blass, the handset will be slightly bigger than its predecessor, measuring 5.9x3x4in with a 5.5in screen that retains the G3’s 2K 2560 x 1440 resolution.

Power is likely to come from a Snapdragon 808 processor with 3GB of RAM, and internal storage should be 32GB with microSD support.

One of the highlights is a 3000mAh removable battery with built-in wireless charging compatibility and quick-charging when plugged into a wall socket. LG is the only major manufacturer to be offering a removable battery after Samsung ditched the feature for a metal unibody design for the S6 and S6 Edge.

G4 CameraLG had already confirmed the 5.5in screen, claiming that it will be 25% brighter than that of the G3 while also having a 20% wider colour range. It has also already announced that the rear-camera will be a 16MP affair with f/1.8 lens, so no surprises there, but according to Blass it will feature an 8MP snapper on the front for super-sharp selfies.

LG is also expected to ship the G4 with Android Lollipop 5.1 preinstalled.

Pricing isn’t so clear, but German retailers claim prices will be anywhere between €679 and €689 (around R9,000) for the 32GB model, making it cheaper than the Samsung Galaxy S6. It’s worth noting that this is for the base model, rather than for the sexy leather-backed version we’ve been lusting over.

That version is expected to set you back between €729 to €739 (around R9,700). That’s without our usual local markups, whic would make it more expensive than the S6, but less than the S6 Edge.

The LG G4 will be launched later today, and Stuff will be reporting from the event. Make sure you check back here for the latest news and updates.
