Twitter, now with Star Wars emoji

Unless you ran out of data yesterday afternoon and fell victim to extreme loadshedding, you’ll know there’s a new trailer out for Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens (watch it over here). To add to the hype, Twitter has created a range of Star Wars emojis that are triggered when Twitter users use particular hashtags.

Twitter’s partnered with Disney and Lucasfilms to create custom emojis that appear when the following hashtags are included in tweets: #C3PO, #Stormtrooper, or #BB8. The emoji only appear in the browser version of Twitter or its own mobile apps, so those using third-party apps or the desktop version for Mac won’t see them.

The three emoji were announced at yesterday’s Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim, California, with Twitter saying more will follow in the build up to the film’s release. Really, the one we most want to see is R2-D2, but we can also imagine a few uses for a Jabba the Hutt emoji.
