Seemingly official HTC One (M9) renders and specs leak ahead of launch

Here it is: the HTC One M9. As best as we can tell, these are official renders of the company’s next smartphone, which were found on German retail sites a week ahead of the launch event.

HTC Leaked M9 RenderAs seen in the renders, the HTC One M9 doesn’t vary dramatically from its popular predecessor, although it does bring an array of small, noticeable changes. Notably, the two-tone gold and silver colour scheme on the model above, while the other version has a full gunmetal grey finish. Also, the power button is now on the right side instead of the top.

Otherwise, the changes come primarily with the specs, but not in every category. For example, the display here is pegged to still be at 1080p, whereas rumours claimed a 2K screen was possible. It may be an also-rumoured HTC One M9 Ultra variant that embraces a sharper screen, after all.

Within is an octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor running at 2Ghz, along with 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage with a microSD slot for more. On the back is a 20-megapixel camera that sticks out slightly from the frame, and this time around, it’s not the divisive UltraPixel shooter. That, instead, is found on the front, rated at 4 megapixels.

The phone is 9.61mm thick compared to 9.4mm for the One M8, which Mobile Geeks attributes to the larger battery, rated at 2900mAh (previous model was 2600mAh). It seems to have dropped a couple grams from last year’s phone, however, as it’s listed at 157.5g (the M8 is 160g).

Expectedly, the HTC One M9 runs Android 5.0 Lollipop with HTC’s Sense 7 skin atop it. The German price is listed at €749 (about R9,930), with a release date of 9 April, although both figures could vary for elsewhere abroad.

These renders match up perfectly with leaked photos of a real handset that Phandroid obtained last month, as pointed out by Mobile Geeks. We should have confirmation on these images and details on 1 March when HTC officially unveils the “new HTC One.”
