HTC One M9 snapped in the wild, showing off its 20.7MP camera

If good design ain’t broke, don’t fix it. That seems to be HTC’s mantra when it comes to the eagerly anticipated One M9. Assuming the news set of leaked pictures is genuine of course.

While the M9 launch date has been confirmed for 1 March in Barcelona at Mobile World Congress, French website Nowherelse.fr has managed to get its hands on leaked pictures of a reportedly genuine M9, giving us a clear indication of what to expect.

The images show off a phone that looks incredibly similar to its M8 predecessor, with what appears to be a slim, curved, sexy metal body. Which, given the M8’s gorgeous design and premium feel – is just fine by us.

HTC M9 Leak RearTake a closer look at the rear of the leaked phone however, and you’ll notice a different looking camera. The French site claims this will be where the new 20.7-megapixel sensor will sit, meaning that HTC will ditch its UltraPixel technology in favour of something that’ll likely produce better pictures, especially for people who like cropping into images.

While none of this has yet to be confirmed, it’s highly likely this could be the case. HTC opted for a 13MP snapper in its Desire Eye “selfie-focused” smartphone, and seeing as that is targeted at the mid-range market, the flagship M9 should receive a better camera.

The One M9 isn’t expected to make the jump to a 2K screen though. Instead, HTC is expected to stick to a Full HD 1920 x 1080 display, but will use the Snapdragon 810 processor, which we’re expecting to see in almost all new flagship devices this year.

We’ve just over a month to wait until MWC and Stuff will be at HTC’s press conference to bring you all the details of the new release, so mark your calendars, and stay tuned.
