GoPro said to be working on its own camera drones

GoPro LogoThere’s no deny that GoPro makes some spectacular action cams, as the footage we’ve seen from the folks who can use them (hint: we’re probably not on that list) is often mind-blowing. And it seems that action sports fanatics will have opportunities to arrange more creative shots in future, if a report from the Wall Street Journal is correct.

According to the WSJ, the camera company is working on multi-rotor drones that will have their own cameras fitted, which to our minds would be the ideal combination of drone and video cam tech – though the Phantom series of drones are already pretty spiffy and that’s what GoPro would have to go up against.

There are few other details, other than a vague release date of end 2015 and GoPro itself isn’t saying anything to confirm or deny the report just yet. Pricing is expected to range between R5,500 and R11,000 if they do arrive as expected.

Tech website The Verge seems to think that the GoPro drone is a certain thing, saying that GoPro likely wants to get into the market currently being exploited by DJI, Parrot and other camera-sporting drone makers. Because money and filmmaking ambitions.
