The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is due to be revealed in just a few days – on 3 September, to be exact – and it looks set to pack some all-new features.
Top of the list is a fingerprint scanner like that found on the Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Alpha smartphones, according to Sammobile‘s “credible source”. As well as being used for screen unlocking, Private Mode authentication, and Samsung and PayPal account verification, the Note 4’s fingerprint scanner will have another trick up its sleeve.
The Note 4’s Fingerprint Shortcuts feature will let you assign some functions or even apps to a pre-registered fingerprint; you’ll be able to swipe with different fingers to open apps directly from the lock screen.
A new Web Sign-In feature will let you use your pawprints instead of passwords to sign in to websites; once you’ve signed into a website, you’ll be given the option to sign in with fingerprints.
Since they’re software features, it’s entirely possible that Web Sign-In and Fingerprint Shortcuts could make their way to the Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Alpha in due course.

Other reports suggest that the Galaxy Note 4 will have an angular metal frame with bevelled edges and plastic inserts at the base of the phone. It’s also said to cost IDR9,499,000, according to Indonesian online retailer, erafone.
We’ll find out for sure at Samsung’s Unpacked event at IFA 2014, on 3 September.
