Lenovo has an event, possible G3 rival smartphone reveal coming up in August

Chinese electronics company Lenovo has got an event planned for 5 August this year and there have been rumblings about that they have in store for the world when it takes place.

Lenovo K920The loudest rumble is that Lenovo will be springing a smartphone on the world, one that may be able to go toe-to-toe with Stuff’s current darling, LG’s G3.

An image, posted by a Lenovo marketing manager on the Weibo social network, shows a piece of the phone that will apparently be arriving soon. From the image we can gather that the handset, which is currently known as the K920, will have a 16MP camera with optical image stabilisation (OIS) and a dual LED flash. There are shades of the G3 there already, minus the laser autofocus but that might still be confirmed later.

The handset also appears to have a metallic body, something that would stand Lenovo in good stead if the speculation is true. The K920 might wind up being renamed to the Vibe Z2 Pro when/if it launches later this year as well.

As to the other specs, nothing has been confirmed with this teaser but Digital Trends reports that a series of specifications leaked earlier this year, suggesting that Lenovo would be packing in a Snapdragon 801, 3GB of RAM and gigantic 6-inch 2560 x 1440 display with 32GB of storage on an upcoming handset. That sounds an awful lot like fighting specs for a flagship phone to us.

The only downside to the phone, whether it proves to be an LG beater or just a contender, is that it might not make the journey to countries like South Africa. As always, we’ll keep you posted on any developments.
