VAIO computers are back from the dead. Sort of

VAIO computers were some of the most well known PCs in their day, and we were sad to see them go in February, when it was announced that the division would be sold off due to what Sony saw as the worsening PC sales climate (and they’re not wrong about that). The sale, to Japan Industrial Partners, is set to finalise this month so it’s probably about time we saw whether VAIO would be sticking around.

As luck would have it, two new VAIO models, the Pro and Fit were unveiled by VAIO’s website, the first machines to be made without Sony’s direct involvement, though they are available through Sony’s online store. Unfortunately the machines are only available in Japan at the time of writing, and apparently the VAIO brand will be a much smaller affair that it was under Sony’s auspices. It looks like the computers will retain all the features and design elements that made the brand so memorable in the first place though.

We will be sure to keep you updated if any other news surfaces on VAIO’s return in places other than Japan. For now, operations are confined to that side of the planet.
