Samsung didn’t just unveil the mini-version of the Galaxy S5 yesterday, they also showcased four new handsets for the budget-minded and they’re all sequels. The Galaxy Core II, Galaxy Ace 4, Galaxy Star 2 and Galaxy Young 2 are all on the way to consumers on a budget and they’re all packing Android 4.4 KitKat.
Specks of specs
Android 4.4 is what almost all of these handsets have going for them, with the specs paling in comparison to what we’re used to cooing over at Stuff. But that’s okay, everyone needs to start somewhere when it comes to smartphones. The Galaxy Core II is the bruiser of the pack, being the only one of the new devices to feature a quad-core processor. It’s also packing a 4.5-inch WVGA display, 768MB of RAM, 4GB of storage and a 5MP camera. The rest of the bunch steps down from there.
The Galaxy Ace 4 has an LTE and 3G model in the offing. The LTE Ace 4 will have a 1.2Ghz dual-core, 1GB RAM, 4GB storage configuration and the 3G will have a 1GHz dual core, 512MB RAM, 4GB storage setup. Both phones will share the camera (5MP) and display (4-inch, WVGA).
The Galaxy Young 2 and Star 2 are the babies of the bunch. The Young 2 sports a 1GHz chip, 512MB RAM, 4GB of storage and lowly 3MP camera, the Star 2 scales down the camera to a 2MP effort. Both have 3.5-inch HGVA screens and identical batteries – 1,300mAh, if you’re interested.
Samsung hasn’t said yet where we’ll find this quartet appearing but they’re probably going to be targeting developing countries so we may just see them close to home.
