Well, looks like a bunch of Android tablets wasn’t the only thing up Asus’ sleeves at Computex 2014. The company also announced the Transformer Book V, a tablet/laptop/smartphone hybrid, as well as the insanely sleek and slim Zenbook NX500.
The Zenbook NX500 sounds like any other ultrabook, with its sleek aluminum unibody construction and slim form factor, Intel Core up to i7 quad-core processor, and 2GB of GDDR5 video memory for fast speeds and graphics performance.
Except it’s also the first Asus notebook with a 4K/UHD display with VisualMaster technology, going up against the likes of the MacBook Pro with Retina Display. Maybe even the rumoured high-resolution MacBook Air.
Its 15.6in 3840 x 2160 resolution IPS panel means two things – crisp graphics and text, and support for future 4K video content. Great for photographers, and even gamers who just want to sear their pupils with ridiculously high-resolution graphics.
Five times a mobile computing device
And that Transformer Book V? The Transformer moniker is quite obvious, given how Asus has been tossing smartphone/tablet/laptop hybrids into the market. It’s the V, or “5”, that impresses. The hybrid device transforms into five modes, though technically it has three form factors.
We’re sure you’re pretty confused so let us break it down for you: it’s a hybrid tablet/laptop; the laptop and tablet run on Windows and Android KitKat 4.4, so that makes four modes.
The fifth mode is its smartphone module, which runs on Android. The laptop has a detachable 12.5in screen that becomes a separate tablet and a 5in smartphone that docks into the tablet. Asus claims that as a phone, it makes it the world’s first 5in LTE smartphone powered by an Intel Atom quad-core processor.
There’s no word yet on local availability and pricing, but we’ll update everyonee as soon as we get our hands and more details on it.
