Say hi to HP’s new 7-inch Android tablet

It’s been a fair amount of time since we saw anything really new from HP in terms of hardware. There have always been the printers but tablets are where the company has been lagging. They’ve got something else hitting the market, the HP 7 Plus tablet that is priced low enough to make the budget-minded sit up and take notice.

Though we’re not sure when or even if HP will be bringing their new hardware this side of the ocean, the HP 7 Plus has gone on sale overseas and has promptly sold out. On HP’s own online store, at least. The reason for this might have something to do with the fact that this little 7-inch., 1024 x 600, 1GHz quad-core (Cortex A7), 1GB RAM, 8GB storage tablet will set users back only $100 (R1050).

At that price, there’s little fanciness in the way of hardware. It seems to feature WiFi as a connectivity feature, with Bluetooth possibly not even making the cut, runs Android 4.2.2, and isn’t the most attractive bit of tech you’ll ever lay eyes on but it comes in at just over a grand.

HP seems to be after the market of folks who maybe never considered a tablet based purely on affordability. In South Africa and other similar countries, they could be on to winner.
