What will Surface at today’s Microsoft announcement?

New Microsoft Surfaces are set to… well, surface.

Microsoft is hosting a launch event in New York City today at around 4pm , and has slated a reveal of an ambiguous Surface product.

Unsurprisingly, rumours have been circulating on what the release will be. A recent Amazon listing pointed to the possibility of a Surface Mini, with electronics wholesaler VSTN selling smart cover cases for the as-yet-unannounced tablet.

GOING PRO

Microsoft could also be gearing up for the launch of a Surface Pro 3 slate. Last week, text on Microsoft’s support page hinted at an undated Surface Pro that might debut sometime this week (and you don’t have to be a math whiz to figure out that the timing of the leak could be alluding to the Surface launch tomorrow).

The rumoured Surface Pro 3 may get a screen size boost, too, with the current 10.6in model set to be replaced by a 12in tablet. According to IHS Technology analyst Rhoda Alexander, quoted on CNET, “There are strong indications that there is a 12in product coming down the pipeline” – CNET also reports that the Pro 3 may use a “power-optimised” Haswell processor instead of an Atom processor.

For those of you who want a minute-by-minute update of the launch, Microsoft will be hosting a live webcast, kicking off at 4pm GMT. We’ll be keeping an eye on the event so stay tuned for updates later today.
