Drone band makes playing music look easy

We’ve seen drones do some interesting things. Flying into active volcanoes, capturing the surfing at Pipeline and generally being acrobatic in ways that would terrify the inhabitants of the Terminator universe. Now, couple of drones have taken to making music. The brainchild of KMel Robotics, the band of hexrotor drones “have taken up new instruments to play some fresh songs”. In a manner of speaking.

As you should have guessed by now, the end result is surprisingly good.

Credit goes to KMel but it should also be given to Intel and Lockheed Martin, whose help seems obvious in a project of this complexity. We’ve got our doubts about whether the whole video was shot in a single take but whoever was controlling the ‘band’ had their work cut out for themselves either way.

Check out the video to see the drone band take on Also spracht Zarathustra, Carol of the Bells and The Star-Spangled Banner.
