Samsung announces the NX Mini 20MP mirrorless camera

Samsung has a new mirrorless smart camera on the market and it’s smaller than the average camera. The NX Mini is an interchangeable lens 20.5 megapixel shooter is being called, by Samsung of course, the “slimmest and lightest interchangeable-lens camera on the market”. Since its body is just 22.5mm thick and the whole thing weighs in at under 200 grams with the battery inserted, they’re not really making lofty claims.

The mini-camera is being touted as perfect for selfies, thanks to the 3-inch moveable touchscreen display that can be used to get that shot of everyone sitting around the person at the party who fell asleep first. Or a bunch of people at the Oscars.

For such a small unit, the NX Mini is being loaded with a lot of features. One of these is wink shot, which is nowhere near as dirty as it sounds. Users taking photos of themselves can activate the shutter by winking at the lens, which waits two seconds before snapping an image. But there are also some more conventional options, like continuous shot mode (6fps), WiFi and NFC integration with automatic uploads to a mobile device, remote control of the camera with a smartphone and also an app that can be used to convert the NX Mini into a baby monitor.

There are three different lens options being released with the NX Mini, which is just as well since The Verge reports that it won’t be compatible with other NX lens types without the use of an adaptor. The NX-M 9mm F3.5 ED, NX-M 9-27mm F3.5-5.6 ED OIS, and NX-M 17mm F1.8 OIS lenses will all work with the NX Mini out of the box, other options will require Samsung’s NX-M Mount Adaptor.
