A cheaper 8GB iPhone 5C might be on the cards (Update: 8GB iPhone 5C confirmed)

The iPhone 5C’s performance has reportedly been quite lacklustre since its release in 2013 and it seems that the company has decided to try and boost sales, according to leaked documents (German site) from O2 in Germany.

In the documents Apple is apparently looking to get sales of the mid-tier smartphone going by releasing an 8GB version of the 5C, which will cost about R900 cheaper than the 16GB version. The existence of an 8GB iPhone 5C is all but certain as Engadget has photographic evidence of the device. The question is when it will release to various territories.

There is no word available yet about a SA release (and we’re not expecting any soon, Apple has yet to make an announcement), but if it’s coming out in Germany, there is a strong chance we will get to see it on our shelves as well.

Update: Apple’s UK website has now got the 8GB iPhone 5C available for purchase.
