Sony updates PlayStation 4 sales figures, over 2.1 million sold since launch

Sony’s PlayStation 4 is off to a good start and the company seems especially pleased with its next-generation gaming consoles progress so far. So much so that they’ve released updated sales figures for the PS4 following the European launch last week. Initial sales of the PlayStation 4 hit 1 million units shifted over a 24 hour period, that number has now risen to 2.1 million consoles sold as of 1 December.

Of that number, some 700,000 consoles were snapped up in Europe and other release locations over the 29 November weekend. Not quite the million that North America managed at launch but we’d imagine that Sony is happy regardless.

Sony PlayStation CEO Andrew House said in a statement “Demand remains incredibly strong and continues to overwhelm the supply worldwide, but we are diligently working to meet those growing demands and to deliver additional PS4 units to our retail partners throughout the holiday season. We are extremely grateful for the passion of PlayStation fans and thank them for their continued support.”

Keep an eye on Stuff, we have got our hands-on review of Sony’s new console going live a little later today. The PlayStation 4 goes on sale in South Africa on 13 December.
