Grand Theft Auto V now holds 7 Guinness World Records

GTA

Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto V was doing rather well just after its release but how has the game fared since then?

By all accounts it has exceeded even the lofty expectations most gamers and industry folk had for the title prior to its launch. Grand Theft Auto V is now officially the holder of seven Guinness World Records, four of which were set in the first 24 hours that the game was on sale.

GTA V holds the records for best-selling video game, best-selling action-adventure video game, highest-grossing video game and highest revenue generated by an entertainment product – all calculated over the span of 24 hours. It has also become the fastest game and fastest entertainment product to gross $1 billion, a title previously held by Activision’s Call of Duty series. Rockstar’s creation beat out the best of the motion picture industry in the process. Lastly, GTA V holds the record for the most viewed trailer for an action-adventure title.

Guinness World Records’ Craig Glenday said in a statement “Gaming is no longer a niche hobby, as GTA 5 has proved, and how exciting that it’s taken on the might of Hollywood and won!.”

Not too shabby for a game that follows the lives of three very different criminals.
