Amazon makes two new Kindle Fire HDX tablets official

Amazon has been expected to make a new Kindle Fire HD official for some time, thanks to some recent image and specification leaks for the device and the company has not disappointed. Two new tablets are due from Amazon, one a 7-inch 1,920 x 1,200 affair (323ppi) and the other an 8.9-inch 2.560 x 1,600 slate (339ppi).

Both new Kindle Fire HDX (the designation for the updated devices) tablets will features Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 processor, clocked at 2.2GHz, which represents a threefold increase in speed over the previous generation says Amazon. The tablets will also be lighter and thinner than its direct ancestor. 2GB of RAM, an Adreno 330 graphics solution and an 8MP rear camera for the 8.9-inch model HDX tablet have also been confirmed, making the rumours spot on this time around. LTE editions of both devices will become available later this year.

Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos said in a press statement “It’s been just two years since we introduced the first Kindle Fire, and the team is innovating at an unbelievable speed. 2.2 GHz processor, 339 ppi display, new 34% lighter design, Fire OS 3.0, and new exclusive features like the Mayday button, X-Ray for Music, Second Screen, and Prime Instant Video downloads. We’ve worked hard to pack this much hardware, innovation, and customer obsession into these prices.”

The non-LTE versions of the Kindle Fire HDX tablets will ship soon overseas, on 18 October for the 7-inch tablet and 7 November for its larger brother.
