Lenovo’s new ThinkPad S531 measures up (to 15 inches)

Lenovo has unveiled their first 15-inch ThinkPad ultrabook, the ThinkPad S531, at the Xander Zhou fashion show in London.

The new Windows 8 ultrabook will be offering a processor performance increase of up to 15% over previous models, according to Lenovo, as well as improved battery life with a claimed 9 hours of powered-on time. Lenovo have yet to offer specifications about the display that the S531 will feature but there will be a “variety of high-resolution displays” available.

The ThinkPad S531 uses both aluminium and magnesium alloy for its shell, which uses a single hinge to open up to 180 degrees. Exact details on available processors for the ultrabook aren’t available either but it will be using chips from Intel’s 3rd-gen Core series and will ship with up to 10GB of RAM and 500GB of internal storage.

The S531 will also be one of the company’s first ThinkPads to support Lenovo’s OneLink tech, with permits a connection to a ThinkPad OneLink Dock “…with a single cable for dedicated video, additional USB 3.0 ports and gigabit Ethernet, all while powering the system.”

The ThinkPad S531 doesn’t appear on the South African version of Lenovo’s online yet but it will start from £575 (around R9,000) on its UK counterpart. Stuff will update once local information is known.
