Huawei makes the Ascend P6 real, billed as the world’s slimmest phone

Huawei has made the much-leaked Ascend P6 handset official, revealing the handset yesterday to the world at large. The Ascend P6 is being billed as “the world’s slimmest smartphone” and, measuring just 6.18mm thick, it isn’t hard to see why the claim is being made.

A quad-core 1.5GHz CPU from Huawei and 2GB of RAM will be powering the slim device, which will ship later this year with a 720p 4.7-inch LCD display and Android 4.2.2. The rear-facing 8 megapixel camera doesn’t appear to be much to write home about but Huawei have opted to drop in a 5 megapixel front camera which they say is “[p]erfect for ‘selfies’”.

The whole phone weighs in at 120 grams, making it incredibly light as well. The Android device will be skinned with Huawei’s Emotion UI and they’ve somehow managed to cram in 8GB of internal storage, microSD expansion and a 2000mAh battery to boot.

There is no local pricing or release date for Huawei’s new flagship device but it is expected to launch in China this month and in areas of Europe in July.
