Samsung has, at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this year, unveiled a new version of the company’s Galaxy Note tablet-phone hybrid.
The Galaxy Note 8.0 sits between the Galaxy Note II and the Galaxy Note 10.1, making it more of a competitor to the iPad Mini and its ilk than anything else. It will feature a 1,280 x 800 8″ display, a quad-core Exynos 1.6GHz CPU and 16 or 32GB of internal storage, with the option to expand that total. The device will run Android 4.1.2 and will feature the S-Pen peripheral common to the Note series of gear.
A slightly strange feature is that the international versions of the Note 8.0 will reportedly sport phone functionality, taking the phablet form factor considerably larger than before, while the American versions of the gadgetry will be WiFi-only. Samsung has given a rough launch time of Q3 2013 for the Note 8.0, saying that more details will be released closer to the time.
The company has, however, apparently confirmed that the next handset in its Galaxy S range – the Galaxy S IV – will be launching in the middle of next month. A event in New York, set to take place on 14 March, will see the S IV revealed and will give us a chance to see if the rumours were correct.
