Huawei’s Ascend P2 lays claim to ‘world’s fastest smartphone’ title

Huawei’s Ascend P2 handset, revealed over the weekend at Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, has laid claim to the title of ‘world’s fastest smartphone’.

The speedy claim isn’t based on processor power however, it comes by way of the fastest LTE connection seen on a smartphone to date, one which supports data transfer rates of up to 150Mbs.

The remainder of the hardware isn’t all that bad either, though fans of high-resolution screens may be a little put out by the 4.7″ 720p Gorilla Glass 2 Infinity Edge Display. The Ascend P2 will launch with Android 4.1, a quad core 1.5GHz CPU, 1GB of RAM and a 13 megapixel camera. There will be 16GB of storage as standard though how much of that is given over to the OS isn’t known just yet.

In terms of looks, the Ascend P2 bears a striking resemblance to the P1, though it offers improved hardware specifications over its ancestor. The Ascend P2 is due for release in Europe in the second quarter of this year. Stuff will post an update once local pricing and availability have been confirmed.
