HP to employ Android for new tablets

Hewlett Packard is reported to be adopting Android for an upcoming series of tablets, with the first device being a “high-end tablet that is powered by NVIDIA’s Tegra 4 chip.”

The report, which comes by way of blog ReadWrite, cites sources as saying that the Android device from HP could be announced “soon” and also that it could be one of the first Tegra 4 devices to launch. HP has had the tablet in the works for some time, it would appear.

The sources have also claimed that HP is looking into launching an Android-powered phone, something which has been contradicted by CEO Meg Witman’s previous statements that the company will not be launching a handset this year.

HP declined to comment on the speculation surrounding this information but the unnamed sources have said that an official announcement on the supposed Android tablets from the company will only happen after Mobile World Congress 2013. HP may just be keeping their details under wraps as much as possible at this point.
