Rise of the Reluctant Innovator Kickstarter project funding a book on accidental inventors

Usually when a Kickstarter project appears on Stuff it revolves around an innovative piece of new tech but this time it is centered on a book.

The Kickstarter project to get Rise of the Reluctant Innovator published is the brainchild of mobile technology innovator Ken Banks and aims to “fill a much-needed gap in the social innovation/social entrepreneurship market…[b]y highlighting the stories of ten ordinary yet remarkable individuals, and the impact their work is collectively having on hundreds of millions of people around the world.”

Banks, speaking in a recent interview with National Geographic, explains that the book will cover ten ordinary people who more or less accidentally found a way to solve some social problem and then followed that solution through without the benefits that entrepreneurs are expected to have at their disposal. He said “By highlighting the stories of ten ordinary yet remarkable individuals, and the impact their work is collectively having on hundreds of millions of people around the world, Rise of the Reluctant Innovator will show us that anything is possible, planning isn’t everything, and that anyone anywhere can change their world for the better.”

The project has a £10,000 goal, of which it has attained a little over £1,000 so far. The Kickstarter project has another 17 days to go to make up the remaining funds.
