A modified version of IBM’s Watson supercomputer/artificial intelligence system will be making a trip to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), expanding on its medical training by adding some language and math studies into the mix.
An IBM press release outlines what will happen to Watson during his time at the RPI, saying that “Rensselaer faculty and students will seek to further sharpen Watson’s reasoning and cognitive abilities, while broadening the volume, types, and sources of data Watson can draw upon to answer questions.”
The modified Rensselaer Watson will be equipped with 15 terabytes of storage space, roughly the same hard disk capacity the Jeopardy!-winning Watson featured. Up to 20 users will be able to access the system at the same time, with faculty researchers, graduate students and undergraduate students all having a chance to work on IBM’s cognitive system.
