BlackBerry 10 bringing changes to BIS in SA

Telkom’s mobile service provider 8ta has confirmed that the launch of BlackBerry 10 in South Africa will be altering the face of the BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) that locals are so familiar with.

BlackBerry 10 will be changing the way that data traffic is handled, switching it from BlackBerry’s ‘blackberry.net’ APN (access point name) to the mobile service provider’s APN. What this means is that the BIS offering, which offers unlimited data for a set fee, will not be applicable on BlackBerry 10. 8ta explains that this has come about in order to “…enhance the user experience of consumers who download apps, games, music, videos, books, magazines and more via their handset.”

Instead of the BlackBerry Internet Service mobile carriers will be offering data packages to consumers. 8ta says that they will be presenting consumers with “…high volume data packages to provide 8ta customers with a quality experience while using their BlackBerry 10 device.”
