BlackBerry to offer music service in SA

Research in Motion is set to launch a worldwide content offering through the revamped BlackBerry World which will see the States, UK and Canada accessing movies, music and TV shows when the upgraded service launches.

South Africa hasn’t been left out in the cold but locals will find themselves limited to the DRM-free music offering only when the new BlackBerry World goes live.

It’s being reported that South Africa may be getting access to the movie and television show options at a later stage, speculation which is borne out by comments from RIM’s Frank Boulben.

Boulben said in a statement “Music and video content is an integral part of a rich mobile experience. People want easy and convenient access to their favorite music, movies and TV shows wherever they are.” He continued “RIM is committed to working with content providers to bring the best, most up-to-date content to our customers with BlackBerry 10, and to make it easy for them to get what they want.”

Pricing for items and the launch date for RIM’s newest take on BlackBerry World have not been revealed but RIM’s BlackBerry 10 launch is taking place later this evening. It is likely that RIM will elaborate on the new services then, along with their unveiling of the BlackBerry 10 operating system and devices.
