Windows 8 seeing higher demand than Windows 7 – Ballmer

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, speaking at a Windows Phone 8 launch event yesterday, has said that initial demand for the Windows 8 operating system has exceeded that seen by Windows 7.

Ballmer said “We’re seeing preliminary demand well above where we were with Windows 7, which is gratifying. We’re seeing retailers here in the United States and hardware manufacturers enthusiastic about the response.”

“The demand for touch on all-in-ones and laptops, in addition to tablets, has been really quite astounding, and certainly the lines we’ve seen at the Microsoft Stores have been heartening.”

Microsoft Stores in the States saw queues when the new operating system launched last week, though reports claim that most of those waiting in line were more interested in the Surface tablet which launched the same day than in Windows 8. The sales figures for the operating system should tell the whole story at a later stage.
