If you have purchased, or happen to purchase, a new Mac from Apple or an authorised reseller from June 11 until the launch of Mountain Lion then Apple will be upgrading your OS free-of-charge when Mountain Lion lands.
This forms part of Apple’s Up-to-Date program and those who buy a Mac after Mountain Lion is released won’t be left out either. Folks who have purchased a “qualifying” Mac before the release of Mountain Lion, which is due this month, will have 30 days to request their copy of the updated OS.
Those who get their new Apple hardware after the OS launches will have 30 days from the day of purchase to head to the Up-toDate page on Apple’s website and get their Mountain Lion upgrade.
OS X Lion and Snow Leopard owners who don’t fall into the free upgrade window will be able to pick up Mountain Lion from the Mac App Store for $19.99 (around R170 at today’s exchange rates).
