MultiChoice recently announced price increases for its South African customers for nearly all of its DStv and Showmax packages. This shouldn’t come as a shock, considering DStv instituted similar price hikes this time last year, although those were announced sooner in 2024.
If you remember 2024’s price hikes, you might also recall that MultiChoice implemented a ‘price lock’ for customers who signed up for its 24-month contract before 1 April 2024.
If that is you, you should dodge this year’s increase as well as last year’s. Enjoy that while it lasts. For the rest of you, here’s how much more you’ll have to pay come 1 April 2025.
DStv 2025 price changes:
- DStv Stream packages: No price change
- DStv Premium: R929 to R979, an increase of 5.4% (Showmax is included)
- DStv Compact Plus: R619 to R659, an increase of 6.5% (Showmax at 40% discount)
- DStv Compact: R469 to R479, an increase of 2.1% (Showmax at 40% discount)
- DStv Family: R329 to R339, an increase of 3%
- DStv Access: R139 to R150, an increase of 7.9%
- DStv EasyView: R29 to R30, an increase of 3.4%
- DStv access fee: R125, up from R120, an increase of 4.2%
We frontloaded the good news there, DStv Stream subscribers are among the lucky few who will not see a price increase this year. The same goes for regular Showmax subscribers.
Unfortunately, those who subscribe to Showmax’s mobile offerings aren’t so lucky, with those seeing some of the largest increases we’ve ever seen to date.
- Showmax: No price change
- Showmax Premier League: R69 to R99, an increase of 43.5%
- Showmax Entertainment Mobile: R45 to R50, an increase of 11.1%
- Showmax Entertainment Mobile and Premier League: R99 to R120, an increase of 21.2%
- Showmax Entertainment and Premier League: R140 to R150, an increase of 7.1%
But hey, at least some DStv satellite subscribers get a whole second stream. That’s… something, at least.
