7.0 Zoning in

The Logitech Zone 305 takes the well-loved H309 design and enhances it with a modern touch, eco-friendly materials, and upgraded features. Made from 55% recycled plastic, these Zone 305s offer solid sound quality, a clear mic, and practical features like a Teams button and multipoint connectivity. While not meant for audiophiles, the Zone 305 is great for office workers or gamers needing reliable Bluetooth headphones.

The Logitech Zone 305 drops as the modernised sequel to the H309 wired headphones, which have become a hit among budget headphone users. People loved the H309s’ surprising build and sound quality at their price point. Logitech saw an opportunity to give people a modernised refresh of the budget-friendly H309 headphones, keeping the essentials while adding key connectivity upgrades that make these well-suited for an office environment.

Environmentally inclined users will love that the Zone 305 headphones are made of lightweight 55% recycled plastic. They are visually understated and are plenty strong while remaining flexible. The 2.6in replaceable earpads are soft and comfy, but the small size causes them to pin your ears against your head, which gets uncomfortable over time. Besides a USB-C charging cable, the Zone 305 comes with USB-C and USB-A wireless dongles.

The buttons are straightforward and responsive. It’s a small but surprising convenience not holding the power button every time you switch your headphones off or on. There are also volume and answer call buttons. The mic arm automatically turns the mic on when you bring it down and vice versa. We received the Teams edition, which includes a dedicated Microsoft Teams button on the right earcup which is supposed to open the app when pressed. For now, you’ll need to use the dongle to enjoy that functionality until Logitech receives certification for the feature over native Bluetooth.

The Zone 305’s dual omnidirectional noise-cancelling mics are the star player here. They capture your voice with incredible clarity while minimising noise. With the Logi Tune app, users can adjust sidetone, which allows them to control how much of their own voice they can hear. Hey, some people like hearing their own voice, we don’t judge.

Mr. Zone 305, a different kind of pitbull

Bluetooth 5.3 allows users to stay connected up to 30m, providing more freedom of movement around their workstation. Multipoint support means you can connect to two devices simultaneously and swap between them, while the headphones can remember up to eight devices. The sound quality is better than expected, though definitely not for audiophiles.

The 30mm audio drivers won’t blow you away but they’re decent enough for bopping to office tunes while working or watching YouTube videos during your lunch break. The Logitune app allows for EQ controls that don’t have much of an effect except on the bass.

Five minutes of charging gets you to around 40% which should last an hour. A full charge takes around two hours, although that’s shorter with modern chargers with higher voltages. The Zone 305’s full talk time is around 20 hours. With varying usage durations, you may only feel the need to charge the Zone 305 every three days or so.

Logitech Zone 305 verdict

The Logitech Zone 305 is a solid update to the H309, delivering reliable sound, clear vocals, and other useful features for the working professional. At a price of R2,250, it’s hard to compete with the simplicity and affordability of the H309, especially if these are ‘deployed’ to you by your IT department and you don’t have to pay for them yourself.

The addition of eco-friendly materials, versatile connectivity options, and multipoint connection support are significant upgrades. They won’t satisfy audiophiles, but they are an ideal choice for someone working in an office where online conversations, especially in Microsoft Teams, are your bread and butter.
