Sennheiser’s Profile Wireless mic makes it harder to lose your sound to the elements

Audio company Sennheiser is launching its Profile Wireless, a dual channel, 2.4 GHz all-in-one microphone system, as a powerful tool for creators looking for reliable compact audio. Compatible with mobile phones, cameras, and computers, the Profile Wireless is designed for versatility to function seamlessly as a clip-on, handheld, or desktop mic depending on the situation.

The high Profile Wireless system

Compact 2.4GHz mic systems have become integral to modern content creation. The Profile Wireless’s modular design includes a charging bar, a mini-receiver, two clip-on mics, foam windshields for all three, and some cables. No additional software downloads are required, either.

Sennheiser describes the charging bar as the heart of its Profile Wireless system. The mini-receiver’s gyroscopic OLED display monitors audio and battery levels. It can connect to a camera, phone, or computer via an audio jack or USB-C adapter. The two clip-on mics can be supplemented with external mics using a 3.5 mm TRS jack and support a 245m maximum range, 150m with interference. They also record 24-bit audio on dual channels to reduce the risk of clipping, and for more dynamic stereo sound.

Handheld mode allows users to insert the receiver into the foam windshield and onto the charging bar so the interviewer can hold something a bit more sturdy as they talk to multiple people. All three components also come with thread mounts so they can be attached to third-party accessories like table stands.

The Profile Wireless has three software features to prevent audio loss. Each clip-on microphone boasts an impressive 16GB of internal memory for recording as a comfy safety net. Activating Backup Recording Mode automatically activates internal recording when the signal becomes too weak. Lastly,  Safety Channel Mode records backup audio at a lower volume to prevent clipping.

This all comes together with a battery that supports over fifteen hours of runtime. If our math is right, at 280mAh for the clip-on mics, the 2,000mAh charging bank should accommodate around seven charges. Their battery life is halved when both recording and transmitting. Preorders for the Sennheiser Profile Wireless are underway and shipping will begin sometime towards the end of the year into next year. It currently retails internationally at around the R5,500 mark but there’s no indication of local pricing as yet.
