Sonos is about to enter a new Era. Two of them, in fact – the Era 100 and Era 300

In August last year, speaker specialist Sonos was revealed to be working on a new omnidirectional speaker setup. At the time it was known under the Optimo designation, a codename meant to conceal what the company was up to. That’s changed.

The Verge, the same folks who outed Optimo, has detailed more about the upcoming and still unannounced speaker system. The pair of speakers will launch under Era branding, with the models being the Era 100 and Era 300 respectively.

A new Era for Sonos

It was already known that Sonos’ upcoming speakers would feature a unique design. Up till now, they’ve been variations of standard bars or lozenges but little was known about the new hardware. The Verge reports that the Era 300 will “showcase spatial audio music tracks and Dolby Atmos content”.

The names were (further) outed by a listing for speaker mounts and floor stands for both the Era 100 and Era 300 speakers. The Era 300 will apparently be the higher-end model, featuring USB-C line-in, WiFi 6 (possibly), Bluetooth, and a redesigned soundstage. It’s also the basis for the concept image in the header above. The Era 100 is less detailed but could feature upward-firing Atmos speakers. An Era 100 SL could also form part of the Sonos lineup in 2023.

Finally, there’s supposedly a Sonos Move 2 destined for launch sometime this year. It’s been a minute since the first Move’s 2019 launch so a sequel was more or less due. We’ll likely receive official word about the Move 2 and the Era lineup soon.
