Logitech G[aming] is bringing an update to its most popular gaming mouse – The G502. The thing is; we’re in 2022. It’s against the rules to release a device, singular. There has to be a minimum of two models, either adding the word Plus or Extra to the name. Logitech understands these rules. A trio of mice is coming, aptly named the G502 X series. Under the umbrella, we have the G502 X, G502 X Lightspeed, and the G502 X Plus.
Three blinding mice
The X series takes the base G502 and brings it up to 2022. The headline change here is the addition of Lightforce hybrid optical-mechanical switches. All three models include the new switches, so you needn’t worry about being priced out by Logitech. Lightforce is a microswitch technology that brings optical switch and mechanical switch features together. If those words meant nothing to you, we understand. The use of optical switches means faster speeds, better performance, and longer device life.
The standard G502 X features an updated form, because why not? Better grips, a new scroller, and a reversible/removable DPI-shift button. Of course, it’s lighter than the original G502. Logitech has opted for a HERO 25k gaming sensor, which offers a “1-1 ratio accuracy at sub-micron levels and zero smoothing, filtering or acceleration”.
We move on to the G502 X Lightspeed, which is essentially a copy of the stock G502 X but with the ability to go wireless. Fortunately, it features a USB-C charging port — because it’s 2022. It’s slightly heavier than the standard model, which should be expected. It’s still only 102g, an inconsequential difference from the stock G502’s 89 grams.

Finally, we have the G502 X Plus. The main difference here is the difference between being a scrub and a true gamer. See, the Plus has RGB. It features a customisable 8-LED that changes based on how you’re playing. It has start-up and power-off effects and a better battery for longer gaming sessions. Is it worth the extra bucks? Possibly not. But can you put a price on becoming a real gamer? Definitely not. It’s also wireless, like the middle child that is the Lightspeed model.
Both wireless models are compatible with Logitech G’s Powerplay wireless charging mats, so you won’t need to replace everything on the desk. And for the first time ever, the X series is available in both black and white colour choices. And then, everybody clapped.
Pricing and Availability
The G502 X series is expected to become available in South Africa sometime in October. Logitech hasn’t set a specific date, so keep your eyes open. Pricing, however, has been announced.
