An open-world Terminator game will launch in “the distant future”, hopefully before Judgement Day

Two days ago, peripheral maker Nacon held its Nacon Connect event, in which the French company gave us teasers for a few of its upcoming games. We saw a glimpse of Steelrising, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, and several other games. Perhaps most interesting was the teaser for an upcoming open-world Terminator game. Based on the 30-second trailer, we can confirm that yes, it looks about a million times better than Gollum does. Although, it isn’t hard to beat.

I’ll be ba… releasing sometime in the future…

Terminator

We now know there’s an upcoming Terminator game. What else? Well, not much, unfortunately. But we haven’t been left entirely in the dark. The teaser shows a T-800 model Terminator entering a warehouse, and then dramatically staring into the camera. We also know it’ll be open-world, and has a working title of “Terminator Survival Project”. Besides that – the future is murky. Even the official description doesn’t offer much more, besides making it sound like Fallout with much more aggressive robots.

“The game takes place in a post-apocalyptic open world and features an original story that builds on the events of the official films. You play as a group of nuclear apocalypse survivors fighting to stay alive in a time period between Judgment Day and the creation of John Connor’s resistance,” said Nacon in a release.

Down below is the official teaser and golly does it look beautiful.

Polygon spoke to Nacon about the release of the “Terminator Survival Project” and learned that it would be released on PC and “unspecified consoles” sometime in “the distant future”. That’s it. We can reasonably assume that the consoles will be the Xbox Series X and the PlayStation 5. It’s unlikely to show up on the previous generation hardware.

This does raise the question of whether or not game companies should be releasing teasers so early in their development cycle. It often doesn’t end up going to plan, with unforeseen delays and early features being stripped. Sure, tease your game. But maybe first have a little more than 30 seconds’ worth of a CG trailer before unveiling it to the world. CD Projekt Red did that with Cyberpunk, and look what happened. Just sayin’.
