The proverbial ink had not even dried on reports that Canon is bringing two new budget cameras to market when a new bit of news turned up to say it actually isn’t. Well, just not right away. If you were frothing to get your hands on the new Canon EOS R7, you’ll need to wait longer than originally anticipated. Blame supply issues for that.
Priming the Canon
Canon issued an apology regarding the delivery delays and referred to orders that exceeded expectations and global supply constraints as the main causes.
Unfortunately for photographers, the R7 isn’t the only of the company’s products affected by supply issues. The Canon EOS R3 and EOS R5 C are also facing delays, along with R system lenses, the Canon RF 14-35mm f/4 L IS USM, RF 400mm f/2.8 L IS USM, RF 800mm f/5.6 L IS USM and RF 1200mm f/8 L IS USM.
The fact that orders for the EOS R7 exceeded expectations isn’t really surprising, considering how Canon has positioned that shooter. Its relatively modest price tag and impressive list of features, which include a 32MP sensor, pro-grade autofocus, 4k60fps video capabilities, and a snappy mechanical shutter mean it probably went straight onto a lot of budding photographers’ wishlists.
Canon Japan’s official apology stated, “We will continue to take measures to ensure a stable supply of products so that we can deliver our products as soon as possible.” It didn’t mention how much longer you would have to wait, so if you’re already ordered yours, you’re just going to have to be patient.
