Google’s Interview Warmup uses AI to help users perform better during job interviews

Interview Warmup

If you’ve ever looked for work, you’ll know that the roughest bit tends to be the interview. Google’s new AI system might be able to help there. Called Interview Warmup, this AI is designed to assist Google Career Certificate candidates to get a job. But, with a little imagination, it could be useful to everyone else too.

The concept behind it is simple. Interview Warmup responds to spoken and written answers, using some of Google’s tech for the latter. If you’ve ever come across an AI chatbot in the wild, you’ll know how it works. Only this one won’t turn into a Nazi after 24 hours on the internet. Probably.

Everyone needs an Interview Warmup

The point is to get users used to typical interview questions. It’s hard to know exactly what to say in response to a… fairly standard set of questions, sometimes. Google’s AI listens to what you’re saying (or typing) and offers feedback on your responses.

If you’re repeating yourself, just overusing words, or aren’t saying enough, Interview Warmup will give you tips on how to improve. But, since it’s aimed at folks studying Google courses, some of the questions are quite specific.

And others are much more commonplace, like personal questions and queries about how you’ve overcome adversity. But the key to using Google’s AI tool is to actually participate. We dived into a tip session but our collection of brief, goofy answers didn’t offer the Warmup AI enough to work with.

The feature is apparently only available in the States, but it seemed to work just fine from Johannesburg. As long as you don’t mind pretending to be a UX designer or a project manager or something, you can get a little help prepping for your next interview.
