Xiaomi hasn’t officially announced the 12 Ultra yet but you can’t keep secrets in the tech industry. A few battery specs have leaked thanks to famed leaker ‘Digital Chat Station’ on China’s microblogging platform, Weibo.

Current rumour suggests that the Xiaomi 12 Ultra will feature a 4,900mAh battery. That isn’t particularly large as far as flagship phones go these days. But when you pair it with 120W fast charging, battery worries start to dissolve away.

Winning battery combo?

Has Xiaomi found the winning formula? It first introduced 120W charging to its lineup with the Mi 10 Ultra back in 2020. But that one only had a 4,500mAh battery. The company has certainly done bigger batteries before. The Mi Mix Fold, Xiaomi’s answer to Samsung’s Galaxy Fold, featured a 5,020mAh battery but only 67W charging.

When Xiaomi released the Mi 11 Ultra last year, its previous flagship, it came with a rather large 5,000mAh battery. That phone stepped down the charging from 120W in the Mi 10 Ultra to 67W. Now it’s looking to combine the best of both handsets

We do have one question though. Why only 4,900mAh? Why not a nice round 5,000mAh? And only 120W fast charging? Maybe the folks at Xiaomi need to have a chat with the folks at Oppo to compare notes.

At MWC 2022, Oppo announced its newest breakthrough in charging tech. 150W and 240W as well as something called Battery Health Engine. Oppo claims its batteries will only lose 20% health after 1,600 charge cycles. That’s double what Xiaomi promises with its 120W charging. But you know how these rumours go — subject to change and all that.
