Pick n Pay cuts price of licence disk renewal service

Pick n Pay

A week ago, we reported that Pick n Pay launched a new, helpful system for renewing your car licence disks. Well, the group has just announced it’s making it a bit cheaper to use the service. It was still going through a trial period but it seems all it needed was a week. Now the service is available in 500 Pick n Pay super- and hypermarkets around the country.

In case you missed our announcement last week, the system works online or in-store. You need to register with a phone number and set up your profile. To do that you need a copy of your ID, existing vehicle licence disc and proof of residence.

You’ll also be able to pay any outstanding fines that might block the renewal process. It’s the same service that the Post Office offers, but now you can get your daily bread and paper at the same time.

Renewing your licence just got cheaper

It’s going to cost you though, it is a value-added service, after all. But, since launching, that price has come down by almost 30%. When it launched Pick n Pay were charging a service fee of R345 (incl VAT) and a R99 (incl VAT) delivery fee for an additional total of R445.

That’s over and above the standard cost for renewing your car’s licence disk, which will depend on what kind of car you have. If you have a small car, that’s almost double the cost just to renew your licence. How much is that convenience really worth to you?

If your answer to that last question was R350 instead of R445 (including delivery) then you’re in luck because that’s what the service will cost now.
