Call of Duty’s Blackout mode will be free for a week

Think you’ve got what it takes to get a victory royale? From tomorrow, 17 January, Call of Duty’s popular battle royale mode will be free-to-play for a week.

Anyone with an Xbox One, PlayStation 4, or PC will have access to Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 for a free trial of Blackout. The freebie will feature all available Black Ops characters, weapons, locations, and gear.

Blackout allows up to 100 players to drop into a map, in either Solos, Duos, or Quads ( but in South Africa’s case, only Solos). Players have their choice of land, sea, and air vehicles to get around while on the ground. Pick up weapons, armour and random gear around the map in a bid to outlast opponents — we’re sure you get the premise of battle royale by now.

The limited-time event comes with the new update issued by Black Ops developers, Treyarch. The update includes the new “Unsinkable” Gauntlet and new Elixirs in the form of Perk Up, Refresh Mint, and Conflagration Liquidation in the Zombies mode.

Users will be able to download Call of Duty: Black Ops IV game from the corresponding game store (PSN, the Microsoft store for Xbox or Battle.net for PC) and will have access to the Blackout mode only. The free trial runs until 24 January — check out our review if you’re not quite sold yet.
