Black Friday for gamers – PS4 and Xbox Edition

It’s that time of the year again, when South Africans try to figure out how to do this Black Friday thing. If there’s one piece of advice we can give you it’s that online shopping is your friend. Especially if you’re a gamer who’d rather get some sessions in than face the stampedes.

Luckily, PlayStation and Xbox have launched their annual Black Friday sale already, and it’ll run until after payday for the most part.

This year has seen some insane game releases, and that means it was pretty hard on the pocket if you bought at launch. Console games aren’t cheap anymore, and could cost thousands if you’re a ‘collector’. This year’s Black Friday is the perfect time to catch up on those titles you couldn’t afford or just to fill out your collection with old favourites. Because, well, they’re all good deals, Bront.

This year Sony PlayStation has a fairly small collection of games on sale, which is unfortunate, but most of the faves are there. On the other hand, Microsoft’s Xbox Live has gone balls to the wall and has more than 250 titles on sale.

PlayStation 4 deals

Whether you’re holding out for Marvel’s Spider-Man, Red Dead Redemption 2 or Black Ops 4, this week’s your chance to catch up on 2019’s best titles.

Grab Marvel’s Spider-Man for R629, down from R1069. Then, the RDR2 Special and Ultimate editions are on sale for R1,100 and R1,350, respectively. Unfortunately the stock edition isn’t on sale. But if you really need Red Dead Redemption 2 (and you do need it), the Special Edition is priced just R100 more than the standard game.

Standout specials include (but are not limited to) God of War Deluxe Edition (R469), Assassin’s Creed Odyssey (R629 – the Deluxe, Gold and Ultimate editions are also discounted), The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Game of the Year Edition (R329), and Shadow of the Tomb Raider (R549).

Other than that, PS has cut the prices of their VR lineup substantially. You can get The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim VR Edition for R400, and the likes of Farpoint for only R160.

These are just a fraction of the available deals — pop on over to the PSN Store for the full list.

Xbox One deals

Microsoft has gone all-out this year, and is offering up more than 250 titles on their Black Friday sale. We cannot go through all of ‘em now, but there certainly are some highlights.

Most notably, Microsoft is offering a special price on newly released Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 for R630 (if you’re a Gold member), or R720 (if you’re not). Sony doesn’t have a special on the base Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 this year.

Xbox One (and 360) players have quite the lineup to choose from — from older favourites to brand new titles. Our favourites include: Assassin’s Creed Odyssey for R600/R700 (Gold/not), Dark Souls III Deluxe Edition for R380/R470, Diablo III: Eternal Collection for R231/R280, a DOOM and Wolfenstein II bundle for R375/R455, and Far Cry 5 for R500/R600.

As mentioned, there are literally hundreds of titles listed on the PSN Store and Xbox Live store at the moment. So you’d better check them out for yourself. Right now. Do it.
