CoD: Black Ops 4 Blackout beta dates announced for PS4

Remember how everyone is on the battle royale mode bus, including Activision? The upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will include a battle royale mode, Call of Duty style, called Blackout. We’re so ready to try out the beta (not because we suck at Fortnite, mind you) which is awesome, because Acti has confirmed when we’re going to get some time with it.

Activision announced the first beta session for the Blackout mode yesterday and, like the multiplayer beta (here’s what we thought about it, checkit), the Blackout test will initially be reserved exclusively for PS4 players. If you’re rocking a Sony console and are eligible for the beta then playtime is scheduled to kick off on 10 September.

Most of the details we’ve had about the Blackout game mode come from an early multiplayer-focussed trailer and then the Twitter post above. Activision hasn’t shared many details about the battle royale mode yet. Likewise, the publisher didn’t provide much information as to what the Blackout beta will entail, but the official Call of Duty Twitter account revealed that players will have three different options to play: solos, duos, and quads.

And you can get access to it, assuming you have a PS4 and a pre-order of the game or a (working) code that you found on a dodgy Twitter account. Beta sessions for the other platforms will be held at a later date, with an announcement likely following later. Xbox One owners will likewise need to pre-order the game to participate in the Blackout beta, but PC players will be able to jump in even without putting out some cash.

The Blackout map will be approximately 1,500 times larger than Nuketown, according to Activision, and is based on Black Ops settings from previous titles. It’ll also feature ground, air, and sea vehicles. Awesome.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 officially releases for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on October 12. We’ll see it launch without a single-player campaign, but it will feature an expanded Zombies mode, online multiplayer and Blackout. Whatever that turns out to be.
