Start practising those Spartan kicks, because Assassin’s Creed Odyssey has been confirmed by Ubisoft as the next entry in the open-world franchise. The confirmation comes just hours after an image of the game’s name and logo were leaked and spread online on a keychain.
The game was first listed in the recent Walmart Canada leak, which outed a new Assassin’s Creed title without giving any specifics. It has now been confirmed, along with the name of the next instalment of our favourite stabby assassination title. The image that spilled the beans (one of which can be seen here) was of a collectible keychain labeled ‘Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’.
The keychain itself consists of a helmet of a type worn in Ancient Greece — in this case a crested Corinthian helmet, which has a strong association with the Spartan elite military. The helmet also forms part of the game’s logo, and the upturned V (an upper-case lambda, in the Greek alphabet) that makes up the rest of the logo was also used on Spartan shields. Just in case you needed even more hints about where this year’s game is headed.
The leak of the innocuous little keychain has since prompted Ubisoft to release a proper teaser.

The official Assassins Creed Twitter account posted their brief teaser after the fact, which features one character forcefully kicking another off a cliff, followed by a title card with the game’s name, and the words: “See you at E3.” The shot is a reference to the Spartan King Leonidas kicking Persian messengers into a well ahead of the Battle of Thermopylae — famously depicted in the Zack Snyder film 300. We’re guessing that the Spartans are going to feature heavily.
We’ll undoubtedly see much more of the game in a little more than a week, at Ubisoft’s E3 press conference.
