The second Rush eSports tournament is coming in June 2018

It’s time to get the old LAN team together, dust off those mousepads and work on your smack-talk, because the second annual Rush eSports event is coming up and there isn’t much time to get your game-face on. We know gamers don’t need excuses for late-night “training sessions”, but now they have a legitimate one.

The second annual instalment of Rush will take place from 29 June to 1 July 2018 at the Sandton Convention Centre, and is inviting “long-time gaming pro’s, regular CS:GO players, and anyone who’s interested in the world of competitive eSports,” to join in the fun.

Players can expect a range of eSports tournaments and gaming-related activities, the details of which will be announced on the website closer to the time. Only play PlayStation? You’re in. An Xbox fanatic? No problem. Part of the PC master-race? We’ll see you there. Rush prides itself on being a multi-tournament, multi-platform, multi-game event, so there should be something for everyone, whether you’re into Mario Kart or DOTA 2.

eSports seems to get bigger in South Africa every year, and if you’re a Twitch regular who’s yet to brave IRL gaming competitions you’d do well to check this one out. Not only can you experience the thrill of live competition, you’ll be able to meet some of the best in the business. And if you’re competing you can suss out the opposition (even if you’ll probably get a crush on them in the second rough, right?).

Think eSports is a niche interest or a fad? According to research firm SuperData, more than 258 million unique viewers per month watched popular eSports titles throughout 2017, with League of Legends remaining the most-viewed eSports game throughout the year. In other words, it’s only going to get more popular.
