Fewer and fewer companies are releasing dedicated tablets, with the only major players coming to mind being Apple and Samsung (and Samsung only just makes the list). So it’s a little surprising to learn that there’s a new tablet coming from none other than… Motorola? Wait, really?
Yup. It’s called the Moto Tab, because what else would they call it, and it’s set to be a 10in Android 7.1-powered slate with lower specs than many smartphones.
The Lenovo Moto Tab will be launching with a Snapdragon 625 processor, 2B of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, and a 7,000mAh battery. Those specs put the Tab in the same performance category as many mid-range smartphones these days. Don’t worry, the Moto Tab doesn’t make calls. That would just be silly.
The Moto Tab does have USB-C and a fingerprint sensor but its main feature is as an extension of an American service called DirecTV. There’s a reason for that.
The Moto Tab is an American exclusive for the moment, launching on the AT&T network. It’ll set users back $300, or R4,300 or so, which seems… okay… for an average device intended to let its users watch content on AT&T-owned DirecTV. It just seems odd that this would be the reason Motorola re-entered the tablet market, is all.
