Standalone version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered could launch next week

Remember last year, when the only way that you would get to play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered was to get the right edition of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare? Yeah, about that…

A series of leaks from the States claims that a standalone version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered is on the way, going so far as to give the street date for the release — 27 June. That’s next week Tuesday (and most of will have just been paid too — Activision, you bastards!).

Information from a couple of Target stores in the States, released to Call of Duty website Charlie Intel, have revealed the standalone title’s existence. There are two street dates floating about as a result, 27 June for a PlayStation 4 release and 27 July for the Xbox One version. There is also photographic evidence of the game (which could still prove to be a very, very elaborate hoax but don’t spoil it, okay?) which seems… mighty convincing.

Activision, obviously, isn’t saying anything at the moment. Perhaps they’re hoping that this leak will go away (or they’re pleased with the free publicity, either is possible).

If it does prove to be launching at very short notice, Modern Warfare Remastered will have a price, in the States. of $40. That’s about R520 in South African silly money and a fair amount to ask for a game that was previously available free with another premium-priced Call of Duty package. Still, we see it gaining some traction among the folks who skipped Infinite Warfare.
