Light Start — Do you think this is a game? Yes, actually

Far Cry 5 is a far cry from Far Cry’s usual exotic locations

If the header image didn’t give you an idea of Far Cry 5‘s religious overtones, then perhaps the announcement trailer (above or at the link) will. The Far Cry series is known for taking us strange places, like the Himalayas, or the distant past (same place, actually), or Africa, or the tropics, so it’s almost strange to see an American setting. But Far Cry 5 is still going to involve the strange, as players will be experiencing facing off against a doomsday cult in a rural-ish American setting with psycho cultists, wild animals, and a whole lot of guns being the main threats. But there are a lot of customisation options, co-op gameplay, and the ability to recruit NPCs to look forward to when the title releases next year February. The day is coming…

Ninty might be making more Switches for 2017 than previously expected

We’re besotted with Nintendo’s new console, which has made up for any grief we had from the Wii U. The new hardware has started strong, with the console expected to ship more than 10 million units before the end of the year. Except… that might not be quite right. Reports have turned up claiming that Nintendo is boosting production of the Switch for 2017, first to 16 million units and then to 18 million, in the latest round of reports. Why? Because they might see demand for them before the end of their financial year and they don’t want to be caught with the console out of stock. Especially over December. Still, Nintendo are sticking to 10 million Switch sales by the end of 2017, at least officially. But if demand runs over, they’ll apparently be ready.

The Monster Hunter series is making its way onto the Switch

Speaking of the Switch and awesomeness, the Monster Hunter series will be debuting on Nintendo’s newest with the release of Monster Hunter XX, an updated version of Monster Hunter Generations. If you’re not familiar with the series, you play as a hunter who goes out in search of monsters. Hunt them, wear them, and use them to make enough gear to hunt larger monsters — rinse and repeat. Doesn’t sound like all that much but you’ll quickly learn how addicting this tough-as-nails hunting series can be when you’ve clocked in your thirtieth hour in three days. XX will be launching on 3DS and the Switch, with saves apparently being transferrable, What we don’t have is launch information but we’ll likely see that sooner rather than later.

Video games are always better when played on a microwave

We like Colin Furze. Basically because he’s insane and he likes to build stuff that explodes or spews flame. But this is a relatively tame effort from him, in that he’s created a Play-O-Wave, which is a microwave-slash-games-console. Why has nobody thought of this before? Furze built a TV screen into a working microwave, which he shows off playing a game while cooking one of the most disgusting things we’ve seen since the last time we let Craig choose all the pizza toppings. And nothing blew up! A bit anti-climactic, but we’ll take it.
