What does an Xbox Live Gold membership grant you? Free games. Loads and loads of free games.
Each and every month you’ll find a handful of gratis games to download on Xbox One, as well as a couple for Xbox 360, and they’re yours to keep so long as you keep paying for the subscription. However, there is one catch to the Games with Gold promotion: they’re only available for a few weeks apiece, and then you won’t find them free again.
Fortunately, we’ve got you covered: these are the free Xbox Live Gold games that will be available in June 2017, across both consoles.
ON XBOX LIVE GOLD IN JUNE 2017
Ubisoft’s open-world action affair has a unique hook: not only can you go anywhere and shoot or steal pretty much anything, but you can also use your smartphone to hack electronics to your advantage, or do a bit of surveillance. The sequel is better, but if you missed the original, now’s your time to play it for free. It’ll be available from 16 June until 15 July.
SpeedRunners (XB1)
You’ll actually be able to download SpeedRunners on its day of release on Xbox One, as it’s free for Gold subscribers throughout June. This uproarious indie game finds you sprinting and swinging across 2D stages in both online and offline multiplayer battles. If Super Mario were a race with agile, superhuman characters, it might play something like this.
Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris (XB1)
So you’ve played the Tomb Raider reboot games, but have you seen Lara’s co-op adventures? Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris takes an overhead view of the action as you and up to three buddies blast through mystical enemies and solve some environmental puzzles along the way. Osiris is a mid-month holdover from May that’ll still be available until 15 June.
Also, on the Xbox One front, Microsoft is giving away a free DLC bundle for Phantom Dust, its newly-released remaster of the original Xbox’s cult classic card-battler.
Assassin’s Creed III (XB1/360)
Following the end of the Italian Renaissance trilogy, Assassin’s Creed III shifted gears to the American Revolution and found a ripe setting full of conflict, historical events, and iconic moments. It’s vast and largely entertaining, albeit with plenty of bugs to go along with all of that ambition. Still, you can have a lot of fun with this one. It’s free between 1-15 June.
Well, they’re certainly dropping some massive games this month, aren’t they? BioWare’s first entry in its fantasy role-playing saga is available free on the back end of the month, from 16-30 June, and is playable on both consoles. Many fans still call the original the best of the bunch (Inquisition is the latest), and it’s certainly plenty epic.

Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams (XB1)
Fans of old-school platformers should get a kick out of this one: Twisted Dreams is a successor to the old-school Great Giana Sisters on Commodore 64, and it lets you swap between twin dimensions on the fly to overcome these side-scrolling challenges. This one is available all throughout May.
Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga (XB1, 360)
Relive the first six Star Wars flicks as blocky bash-’em-ups in The Complete Saga, which brings together the earlier standalone trilogy games. Every big scene has been given a comedic twist here, along with loads of playable characters and both local and online co-op action. And we think it’s one of the best Star Wars games of all time, too.
