It looks like there’s a new Red Dead Redemption on the horizon – literally

Here’s kind of a trick question: How do you make a large portion of the internet — the bit of it that plays games — make it lose its collective mind? If you’re Rockstar Games, then all you do is post two images. Images that, by the look of things, tease the release of a sequel to cowboy simulator Red Dead Redemption.

Rockstar yesterday posted a mere two images, one of the company logo on a distinctive red background. This little teaser alone was enough to spark discussion of what might be next, securing cover 110,000 retweets to date. But then this happened:

The image, which shows a group of Western-looking folks in silhouette against a sunset, was offered without comment but that hasn’t stopped six-gun fans from losing their minds over what could be a pending announcement for Red Dead Redemption 2.

We’ve been ready for a sequel for a long time. Actually, we’ve been ready for a sequel since the first time we finished the 2010 Red Dead Redemption  but it was in 2014 that Take Two confirmed that another game was on the way. An apparent map for the game leaked online earlier this year, showing some familiar territory that has been fleshed out with additional areas but its veracity hasn’t been confirmed.

At the moment, all we’re left with is the image. The good news is that it’s not like Rockstar to tease (too hard) about something that doesn’t exist and they have a history of only doing reveals when the work is nigh-on done. Could be we’ve got some very big news headed our way soon.
